What "free" means now

Short answer: you still play free, just not on this site.

The old embedded demos ran on technology that browsers dropped years ago. Rather than replace them with frames that break every few months, we point you to where demos actually work: the casinos' own lobbies, where the game is served by the studio and the version matches what you would play for money.

Some lobbies show the demo to anyone. Others ask you to sign in first, which we do not love, but it is their call. In Ontario, regulated sites follow their own rules on free play.

And the demo is the same maths as the real game. Same RTP, same rules. What it cannot do is pay you, and what it cannot show you is how a losing streak feels when it is your own money. Two different things, both important.

Free slots

A note on the studio column. Microgaming's catalogue has been distributed by Games Global since 2022, which is why four games carry both names.

Free blackjack

Free roulette

Twelve wheels. The single most important thing to know about any of them is how many zeros the wheel has; the roulette hub covers the rest.

Where we wrote "check in game info", the 2023 page did not record the wheel type and we would rather not guess.

Free craps

Three RNG tables, each with its own guide:

• Craps by Betsoft: rules in order, plus the full house-edge table.
• Craps by Rival: a beginner walkthrough and the best and worst bets.
• Craps by RTG: how Odds bets lower the edge, and proposition bets compared.

The quick version: Pass Line 1.41%, Don't Pass 1.36%, Odds 0%. Most of the rest of the table costs more. Some of it costs a lot more.

Which free game costs least when it stops being free?

This is where demos are useful. Not for practising luck (no such thing) but for learning which games keep more of your money on the table.

Slots sit low on the list for a reason. Operators may run lower RTP versions than the default published by the studio, and Mega Moolah's 88.12% includes the jackpot share. Check the info screen.

A Canadian Tire flyer has a fine print box too. Nobody reads it either.
