Super 21 (RTG): Play This Blackjack Variant Free in Canada

The rule bundle

RTG's Super 21 is built around player-friendly extras. In the version documented for RTG casinos, these include:

• A player blackjack always wins, even against a dealer blackjack.
• A hand of six cards totalling 21 or less wins automatically.
• Doubling on more than two cards, and doubling after splitting.
• Surrender, including in spots where classic tables don't allow it.
• A natural paid at even money, with a higher payout for a blackjack in diamonds.

That last line is the catch. Your ordinary blackjack no longer pays 3:2.

Why RTG built it this way

Variants like this make the game feel generous on every hand while the payout table keeps the maths in line. It works, psychologically. Seeing your natural beat a dealer natural feels great, even at 1:1. Whether the constant small wins make up for the missing 3:2 is a question of taste, and an evening with the free demo answers it better than any review. Count how many naturals you get in 200 hands, then do the maths on what 3:2 would have paid. Sobering, a bit.

Rule bundles vary between RTG builds and casinos, so treat the list as orientation and confirm every line in the game's help screen. It's honestly the kind of game where the help screen deserves two full readings.

What each result pays

Is the trade fair?

Close to fair. With strategy built for these rules, the house edge lands roughly between 0.5 and 1%, depending on deck count and the exact bundle. RTG lists the return in game info; check there.

Losing 3:2 on naturals costs you more than any single extra gives back. Together, the extras nearly make up for it. Nearly. Like a Canadian Tire deal that only works on Tuesdays and only on paint: real, just narrower than the flyer suggests.

A starter tip: use the extra doubles

The rule most players under-use is doubling on three or more cards. A soft 18 with three cards against a dealer 6? In many classic games you'd just stand. Here, doubling can be the better play.

The six-card rule matters too. With five small cards and a total of 14, hitting is safer than it looks, because a sixth card under 21 wins outright.

Surrender, on the other hand, is easy to overuse. Save it for hard 15 and 16 against strong dealer cards. The free mode is the cheapest classroom. And no, none of this flips the edge to your side.

RNG only

Super 21 is an RTG software game; we know of no live studio version. That means a free demo, a software shuffle every round and no time pressure, which helps with a rule set this busy. For regular live blackjack, see our live casino page.

Also, don't confuse it with Spanish 21. Similar spirit, different rules and decks. Spanish 21 removes the tens from the shoe; Super 21 as RTG documents it does not, but check the deck count in game info.

Where to find Super 21 in Canada

RTG games appear mostly at casinos running RTG software, and none of the Québec-accessible brands in our list is confirmed as an RTG casino. So: search the lobby before depositing, and if the title isn't there, our Blackjack Surrender page covers a table with a similar escape hatch.

Québec-friendly options we review, with French interfaces: Zodiac Casino, Royal Vegas, Tooniebet. Compare their payment options on casino payments.
