The weights
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Licence and safety | 20% | Who holds the licence, which entity runs the site, whether the footer and terms match, and how complaints are handled. |
| Québec access | 10% | Whether players in Québec can register, or whether the terms exclude the province. |
| French interface and support | 12% | A French version of the site and the cashier, and French help in chat or by email. |
| Payments and Interac | 15% | Interac e-Transfer, iDebit, Instadebit and other Canadian options, deposit minimums, fees, CAD accounts. |
| Payout speed | 12% | Published pending periods, withdrawal limits and caps, as stated in the terms. |
| Bonus fairness | 13% | Wagering, maximum bet while a bonus is active, time limits, game weighting, withdrawal caps on bonus wins. |
| Games | 8% | Studios available, live dealer tables, whether game info shows the RTP. |
| Mobile | 5% | How the site works on a phone browser and whether the cashier is usable on a small screen. |
| Support | 5% | Channels, hours, and whether answers are findable without a chat. |
| Total | 100% |
Each criterion is scored from 0 to 10, multiplied by its weight, and the results are added up. A casino that scores 10 on licence and 5 on everything else ends up at 6.0. Simple arithmetic, on purpose: you should be able to redo it with a pencil.
Licence and safety carries the most weight. A generous bonus at a casino you can't hold to account is worth very little.
Why Québec and French count this much
Because most of our readers are in Québec, and most "best casino in Canada" lists are written as if the province didn't exist.
Some casinos accept Canadians but exclude Québec in their terms. Others have a French site where the cashier, the bonus terms or the chat quietly switch back to English. Together, Québec access and French support make up 22% of the score. If you live in Calgary or Halifax, that may feel like a lot. Fair enough. The individual criteria are shown in every review, so you can ignore the ones that don't apply to you.
Payments get 15% for a similar reason. Interac e-Transfer is what most Canadians actually use, and the gap between "Interac logo in the footer" and "Interac in the cashier at a sensible minimum" is wider than it should be.
Where the facts come from
From the casinos themselves. We read the terms and conditions, the bonus terms, the payment pages and the footer, and we compared the cashier pages where we could reach them. Licence details come from the operator's footer and, where possible, from the regulator's public register.
One limitation, stated plainly: the October 2026 check was made from outside Canada. Some casinos showed amounts in euros. Where that happened, the review says "amounts shown to us in euros; confirm the C$ figure in the cashier". We don't convert and round those figures into dollars, because the casino's own C$ number may differ.
If a fact could not be confirmed, the review says "check on site". It is not elegant. It is accurate.
What we have not tested yet
- Interac e-Transfer deposits and withdrawals from Desjardins and Banque Nationale accounts. These are on the editorial test list. No results are published because none exist yet.
- Live chat tests, including whether a French-speaking agent answers. Until then, French support is marked "unverified" in most reviews, and the score uses only what the casino publishes.
- Timed withdrawals. Payout speed is scored from published pending periods and limits, not from our own cash-outs.
When a test is done, the review will show the date and what happened, including if the result is boring.
Ontario, Alberta and closed brands
Ontario and Alberta both run regulated markets (Alberta since 13 July 2026). For readers there, we list only registered brands, publish no bonus amounts and don't rank them by bonus fairness. Those brands are shown for information, not scored against offshore sites.
Casinos that closed, changed name or stopped answering get a status page instead of a score. Bodog, for example, became Ozoon on 17 February 2026 and excludes Québec.
Updates and corrections
Scores change when the facts change: a new licence, a bonus with different wagering, Québec added to or removed from the excluded list. Each review shows the date it was checked.
Think a score is wrong? Tell us on the contact page and point to the casino's own terms. We read everything; we change a page when the source backs it up. The full ranking is on best online casinos, and how the site earns money is on the affiliate disclosure page.
