"Check in game info" means our 2023 pages did not record the wheel type, and we will not guess. The game's help screen shows it at a glance: count the zeros.
Single zero, double zero, and the extra one
Verdict: play single zero. Always, when you have the choice.
A European wheel has 37 pockets, numbers 1 to 36 plus one zero. A straight-up bet pays 35:1 on a 1-in-37 chance, so the house edge is 2.70% on nearly every bet.
An American wheel adds a double zero: 38 pockets, same payouts, 5.26% edge. Nearly double. The five-number bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) is worse still at 7.89%. American Roulette and Double Zero Roulette are on this list because people search for them, not because we recommend them.
Then there is the odd one. Mini Roulette uses 13 pockets, 0 to 12. With a straight-up bet paying 11:1, the edge is 7.69%. It is quick and it is cute. It is also expensive.
Inside and outside bets, with payouts
Every roulette layout has the same two zones. Inside bets go on the numbers themselves; outside bets go on the groups around them.
| Bet | Covers | Pays |
|---|---|---|
| Straight up | 1 number | 35:1 |
| Split | 2 numbers | 17:1 |
| Street | 3 numbers | 11:1 |
| Corner | 4 numbers | 8:1 |
| Six line | 6 numbers | 5:1 |
| Dozen or column | 12 numbers | 2:1 |
| Red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36 | 18 numbers | 1:1 |
On a single-zero wheel, every one of these carries the same 2.70% edge. So the choice between a straight-up bet and red is not about value. It is about how bumpy you want the evening to be: one pays rarely and big, the other often and small.
Call bets (voisins, tiers, orphelins) appear on French and some European tables. They are just bundles of the bets above.
Why French roulette is the best of the bunch
French Roulette uses the single-zero wheel and adds La Partage: when the ball lands on zero, you get half of any even-money bet back (red/black, odd/even, high/low). That halves the edge on those bets, to 1.35%.
Some tables use En Prison instead, which locks the bet for one more spin. Similar effect. The help screen says which rule applies.
The layout uses French names (rouge, noir, pair, impair, manque, passe). Montréal readers will feel right at home. Everyone else learns six words.
Betting systems: a short and honest note
Martingale, Fibonacci, D'Alembert. They change the size of your bets, not the edge on each one.
Martingale (double after each loss) feels safe until a streak of losses meets the table limit, or the end of your budget, and that streak comes more often than it feels like it should. Free play is the right place to try a system and watch it fail without paying for the lesson.
The wheel has no memory. Ten reds in a row do not make black "due". Like a Winnipeg January: the next day is not warmer just because the last ten were cold.
RNG wheels or live roulette?
All twelve games on this page are RNG: software decides where the ball lands. They are fast, they offer low minimums, and some have nice 3D wheels (3D Roulette and Roulette 3D are two different games from two studios, yes, confusingly).
Live roulette streams a real wheel and croupier. Same edge for the same wheel and rules, slower rounds, a real ball. Among Québec-accessible casinos in our list, live lobbies run on OnAir Entertainment or Pragmatic Play Live, Yukon Gold shows a "Real Roulette" title, and Tooniebet lists live roulette in its help centre. The RNG titles on this page are not named at those casinos, so check on site.
The smaller-stakes and extra games, European Roulette Small Bets, Club Roulette, Roulette Pro, Roulette Silver, Zoom Roulette and European Roulette, each have their own guide for rules and limits. See also the live casino page.

Roulette often counts for little or nothing toward bonus wagering, so a welcome bonus may not help at the wheel. Ontario (19+) and Alberta (18+) players should stay with their regulated provincial sites. Québec context on the Québec page.
Frequently asked questions
Which roulette has the lowest house edge?
French roulette with La Partage or En Prison: 1.35% on even-money bets. Otherwise any single-zero wheel at 2.70%.
Why is American roulette worse?
The extra double zero raises the house edge from 2.70% to 5.26%, with the same payouts.
Do roulette betting systems work?
No system changes the house edge. They change bet sizes, and Martingale in particular can hit table limits fast.
Can I play free roulette on my phone?
Yes, where a casino offers the demo in its lobby. Current RNG roulette games run in mobile browsers.
Is live roulette fairer than RNG roulette?
Neither is fairer by design. The edge depends on the wheel and the rules. The difference is pace, minimum bets and atmosphere.
