Thirty-eight pockets: 1 to 36, 0 and 00. Both zeros are green. When either hits, all outside bets lose.

The layout looks almost like a European table, with one extra spot at the top for 00, and one extra bet you won't find on a single-zero wheel: the five-number bet (0, 00, 1, 2, 3), sometimes called the top line or basket.

Otherwise, nothing new. Place chips, spin, collect. Betsoft lets you repeat or double the last bet with one button and shows recent results in a history strip. The history strip, by the way, predicts nothing. The wheel has no memory.

Payouts, with the edge per bet

One row stands out. Avoid it.

Every other bet has the same edge, which means no clever mix of inside and outside bets reduces it. Covering more of the table only changes how often you win and how much each win is worth.

5.26%, and why it matters

Every standard bet loses 2 units out of 38 on average: 5.26%. The return to player is 94.74%.

Compare with the European wheel at 2.70%. On C$500 of bets in an evening, that's roughly C$26 expected loss on American vs C$13.50 on European. Same game, same fun, double the cost.

So why does American Roulette exist online at all? Familiarity. It's the wheel in most US casinos and in a lot of movies. Fair enough. Just know what you're paying for it. Think of it like the toonie coffee that became a four-dollar coffee: same cup, same taste, and you keep buying it out of habit.

The tip is short: skip the top line

Don't place the five-number bet. It's the only bet on the table with a worse edge than the rest.

Another small one: ignore the "hot" and "cold" numbers panel. Betsoft shows recent results because players like seeing them, not because they help. Each spin starts fresh.

Beyond that, flat stakes and a fixed budget. No betting pattern changes the 5.26%, and nothing here promises a win.

Betsoft's table is RNG: software picks the result, the animation shows it, and the demo runs on play credits.

Live American Roulette exists at some studios but is less common than European or French live wheels; we haven't checked live table availability at each casino. If you find one, same 5.26% edge, real money only, slower spins. More on the format at live casino.

The slower pace of live actually helps the budget. Fewer spins an hour, fewer chances for the edge to work.
