The rules, without the fluff
Get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. That's it.
You start with two cards, the dealer shows one. Hit to draw, stand to stop, double to take exactly one more card for twice the bet, split a pair into two hands. Aces flex between 1 and 11, faces count 10. The dealer then draws by a fixed rule, no choices, no mood swings.
Details like the number of decks, re-splitting aces or whether the dealer hits soft 17 live in the game's help screen. They differ between builds, and we have not checked each casino's version, so read them there.
A quick aside: the old 2023 version of this page promised the demo "without downloading". Every browser game is like that now. Download clients went the way of the loonie in slot machines.
Payout table
| Bet / result | Payout |
|---|---|
| Winning hand | 1:1 |
| Natural blackjack | 3:2 |
| Insurance | 2:1 |
| Tie | Push |
Four lines. Short table, which is the point of this game.
Double and split bets are paid at the same 1:1 rate as the hand they belong to. A split ace that draws a ten usually counts as 21, not blackjack, so it pays 1:1 too. Check Betsoft's help screen for the re-split rules, since builds vary.
A habit before a system
Stand on hard 17 and up. Always. It sounds obvious until you are at 17 against a dealer ten and something in you wants one more card.
Then add the rest of basic strategy one block at a time: hard totals first, soft hands next, pairs last. The free mode is perfect for this since a mistake costs nothing but pride.
Nothing here guarantees a win. Basic strategy only keeps the house advantage small.
One more thing about the demo: play credits are free, so people bet the maximum on every hand and learn nothing about pacing. Set a pretend budget, say C$100 in credits at C$5 a hand, and see how long it lasts. That number is more useful than any chart when real money is on the line.
What the house keeps
About 0.5% with correct play, give or take a few tenths depending on the rule set. Check in game info for the exact figure in the build your casino runs.
The return to player is the flip side, roughly 99.5%. Remember that is an average over millions of hands, not a promise for your evening.
Two things push that up fast: taking insurance and playing by feel (the second one is the expensive one). A 0.5% edge on C$10 hands means an expected cost of five cents a hand. Mistakes can multiply that.
RNG demo or a live table?
RNG, if you are learning. The shuffle is done by software after every round, you can pause to check a chart, and there is a free mode.
Live tables are real money only, slower, and better for a Saturday night when the Winnipeg forecast says minus 34 and going outside is a lifestyle choice you decline. Different tool, different job. See live casino.
Fairness works differently too. RNG games are certified by testing labs before release; live tables rely on cameras and physical shuffles. Neither changes the maths. The house edge is the same idea in both rooms.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the old page say "Québec bettors"?
The 2023 page targeted Québec. This one still puts Québec-accessible casinos first, and covers the rest of Canada too.
Is Betsoft Blackjack the same as American Blackjack?
Close, but not the same table. Our American Blackjack page covers the hole-card version.
Can I win real money in the demo?
No. Demo credits have no cash value. Real-money play needs an account and a deposit at a casino.
Does blackjack count toward a bonus?
Often at a reduced rate or not at all. Read the terms and try our wagering calculator.
