Blackjack Switch (Playtech): Free Online Game for Canadians

How Switch works

You place two equal bets and get two hands. Before playing either, you may switch the top cards between them.

The game was invented for land-based casinos and Playtech carried it online; the online version keeps the same core: two hands, one swap, then play each hand normally.

Say you hold 10-6 and 5-10. Switch and you have 10-10 and 5-6, a 20 and an 11. Lovely.

The price: a natural blackjack pays 1:1, not 3:2. And if the dealer ends on 22, every hand still standing pushes (a natural still wins). That one rule decides more hands than you'd think. Deck count and doubling rules: check the help file, Playtech's build can differ from the land-based original.

A note on bet size: you are always playing two hands, so a C$5 table means C$10 per round. People forget this, then wonder why the bankroll went faster than usual. It's like the Interac limit running out on the Friday you finally wanted to deposit: obvious in hindsight.

Edge: low, if you play it properly

About 0.6% with a strategy made for Switch. Regular basic strategy is the wrong chart here.

Why is it so low despite the 1:1 natural? Because the switch is very valuable. Turning two weak hands into a 20 and an 11 happens more often than you'd guess, and the 22-push only takes back part of that.

The Super Match side bet sits at several percent. I'd leave it alone, honestly; it is the Canadian Tire flyer deal of this table, the kind that only works on Tuesdays and only on paint.

The tip: think in pairs of hands

Compare the total value of both possible layouts, not just the best single hand. Two decent hands usually beat one great hand plus one disaster.

Also, because of the 22-push rule, you double and split a bit less aggressively than in classic blackjack. The free mode is perfect for getting a feel for it. No technique turns the edge in your favour.

A practical drill: for the first fifty demo rounds, say both options out loud before you click. "Keep: 16 and 15. Switch: 20 and 11." It slows you down, and slowing down is the whole skill in this game.

Hard 16 against a dealer 7 is a different decision here than in classic blackjack, by the way. The 22 rule makes the dealer's bust less valuable, so you hit more often. Check a Switch-specific chart.

RNG version vs live

Blackjack Switch is mostly an RNG game online; live Switch tables are rare and their availability changes. RNG gives you a demo, instant shuffles and time to think about the swap. For live blackjack in general, see our live page.

If you do find a live Switch table, expect higher minimums than RNG, since two hands double the base stake. Check the table card before you sit down.

Where Canadians can find it

Spin Casino lists a C$10 minimum deposit and Interac; Ruby Fortune's Interac option was not shown on the pages we could read, so check on site. Bonus amounts there were shown to us in euros; confirm the C$ figure in the cashier.
