Casino Stakes Canada: Status in 2026

By the Best Canadian Casinos editorial team · Checked: 14 Oct 2026 · 19+ (18+ QC, MB, AB)

Stakes Casino is online. You can open stakes.com today and it loads. What it doesn't show is who runs it, or who licenses it.

Until that changes, we don't list it. Here's what we found on 14 Oct 2026, how you can check any casino's licence yourself, and three alternatives that pass that check.

Status: Operator unverified

Site online but shows no licence or operator; not listed until verified. Not the same company as Stake.com.

Status: live, but no licence or operator shown

Not to be confused with Stake.com. "Stake Canada Ltd." on Alberta's registrant list belongs to a different company. Stakes, with an s, is not that.

Our 2023 review named a Curaçao licence and the companies Mountberg B.V. and Flavidus Limited. The current site confirms none of it.

Why we don't list it

Simple rule: if a casino won't tell you who it is, we won't send you there.

A licence and a named company are the minimum. They tell you whose terms you're agreeing to, who holds your balance and where to complain. Without them, a dispute has nowhere to go. That's not a judgement on how the site plays. It may pay perfectly well. We just can't show you any evidence either way, and the Canadian-looking setup (French, Interac) makes the gap more serious, not less, because it suggests Canadians are the target.

What Stakes was in 2023

Our old review described a casino that entered Canada in 2016, with a Curaçao licence, around 3,000 games from studios like Betsoft, NetEnt and Evolution, and wagering it called low. It read like a fairly typical offshore casino of its time. The web archive shows the site responding normally through May 2026, so it never really went away; it just stopped telling visitors who runs it.

Why would a casino drop that information? We don't know, and we won't speculate about a specific company. In general, a missing licence line is either sloppiness or something the operator prefers you not to look up. Neither is a good sign at a place that holds your money.

If Stakes adds a verifiable licence and operator to its footer, we'll look again and update this page with the date.

How to check a casino licence yourself

Five minutes, any casino:

  1. Scroll to the footer. Look for a company name, a registration number and a regulator. All three, not one.
  2. Check the regulator's own list. For Kahnawake, the permit-holder page. In Ontario, the iGO operator directory. In Alberta, the AGLC registrant list.
  3. Match the domain, not only the brand name. Copycats exist.
  4. Read the terms for the same company name. If the footer and the terms disagree, ask why.

A badge picture in the footer is not a licence. Click it; a genuine seal usually opens a verification page on the regulator's own domain. Like checking the expiry date at the dépanneur: takes a second, saves a bad surprise.
